Carstensz Pyramid Expedition -- Carstensz Pyramid or Puncak Jaya (meaning Victory Peak) as it is known locally, is located on the island of West Papua, Indonesia. About the Mountain The Carstensz Pyramid, which is roughly around 16023 feet high (4884 m), is one of the famous Seven Summits. Carstensz Pyramid is one of the most exotic mountaineering trips imaginable. It is considered the highest peak of the seventh continent for climbers attempting the Seven Summits. Carstensz Pyramid is regarded as one of the more technically difficult of the Seven Summits, but climbers with basic rock climbing knowledge, knots, and rappelling will not have difficulty with any of the terrain. The route is a wonderful alpine rock climb that includes scrambling on 4th class rock terrain, ascending fixed ropes with the use of an ascender and rappelling skills. Summit Attack From BC you can see Carstensz Summit, Jaya Summit (Ngapulu) and East Carstensz. Summit attack is usually starting on 3 or 4 o clock in the morning. The normal climbing duration for summit take around 10 - 12 hours, from BC and return to BC. This is depending on your rock climbing skill and weather condition. Route Trekking The Carstensz Pyramid Expedition has two option expeditions programmed: 3 Route trekking from sugapa, Ilaga and Tsigna Village and Private Charter Helicopter directly to Base Camp (Lembah Danau-Danau).
